My 2001 crown Victoria is blowing the fuse for the turn
Sep 06, 2016My 2001 crown Victoria is blowing the fuse for the turn. To confirm that theory, we would have to remove the actuator to test both it and the door. Problem is Ford placed it on top of the evaporator case, so it's kind of difficult to get access to it - a Ford shop would remove the dash and charge about 6 hours just to replace the actuator.Hi there. Frankly, I don't understand either why Ford engineers designed the circuit in such a way, but fuse F16 protects many circuits, including those that power the Electronic Automatic Temp Control (EATC) and turn signals (see attached graphic). In your particular case, the fuse blows due to an internal short in the EATC. Replacing that control unit should resolve the issue. Does the F16 fuse blow when you move the air selector without touching the turn signal switch, or when you activate the turn signal switch? Does it only do it when those two components are involved? Any other accessories causing the F16 fuse to blow?Is this a Police Interceptor by any chance?In that case, the only thing that would make sense is a binding blend air door or a faulty actuator causing an excessive draw that is only there when the engine is running and the alternator is putting out more current than what's available with the engine off. There are however other less orthodox methods of getting to the actuator such as the one in this video (click here to see) I would also temporarily disconnect the blower motor to see if that has any effect on circuit draw.
