50 AMP HOT TUB WIRING SIZE
Most hot tubs will require 4 wires being two hot wires,one neutral wire and one ground wire. The most common voltage requirement is 240 volts and most will need a 50 amp circuit. Some hot tubs have load requirements of up to 60 amps and others require only 30 amps or 40 amps.

Wiring a Hot Tub Electrical Question: I connected my hot tub with 240 volt 50 amp GFCI, at the spa terminals I checked between the red and black wires and have 240 volts but I cannot get 240 volts at the pumps which will not turn on. There are 4 wires on the pump, green grounded, white, red and black. I’m not sure how to measure 240 volts at the pump but I’ve tried several things but all

Sep 27, 2006I am no electrician, but when I wired my Tiger River 50 amp gfci, I used the installation manual as a guide for wire sizes and it showed 8 guage for runs less than 100 feet. Now your local Home Depot will tell you 6 guage is required for a 50 amp circuit, but the guage of wire is dependent on amp draw and length, not just amp draw.
