Jan 22, 2010If you create a fuel leak, you will have a problem. but if there is no leak, there is no oxygen in the filter to burn. So you can gently heat up the filter nut until it just starts to turn a little red. then put the torches OUT and quickly attempt to loosen in before it cools.

Jun 09, 2009the heat that a marine engine generates tends to really adhere the rubber gasket of the filter to the engine. You have to be able to break that seal. If you can reach, you might try running a blade around where the gasket meets the engine just to separate them. BTW - same goes for the fuel filter.

Mar 06, 2008The filter on the port engine is somewhat cramped to reach but not unreasonable. I know the last resort trick of the screwdriver through the filter. I am reluctant to do this on a boat because if I do not manage to catch all of the oil in the plastic bag I will have a mess cleaning up the bilge. Most concerned about filter on port engine.
