Aug 04, 2016Since using Auto ISO has in effect turned manual exposure in to an automatic exposure mode, therefore it makes sense to be able to bias the exposure with exposure compensation. Unfortunately the EOS 5D Mark III does not allow this. I think that a firmware update could certainly make it possible, but none has come from Canon. YES – manual mode

John, I have been using auto-ISO in manual exposure mode for several years now. I find it extremely liberating in that it allows me my choice of both, the depth-of-field and the shutter speed, if I was willing to compromise a bit on the noise.

hsbn, thanks for offering your alternative in the mean time. I tried it, but it does not work the way I need it. When you choose Av mode combined with Auto ISO, the camera tries to find a compromise between shutter speed and ISO, favoring low ISO with an exposure time that it thinks you can still hand held.

Dec 09, 2010The issue of a truly functional auto ISO in Manual mode (a la the T2i, 7D, 1DIV) on the 5DII has been discussed/debated to death over the past two years here and elsewhere can't understand the need for it; others can't believe it wasn't included with the original camera or later via a firmware update.
