Dell Factory Image Restore (Format Recovery) - Dell Community
Hi. Yesterday I tried to do a format recovery (If I'm right, it should be Dell Factory Image Restore) but while following the instructions in my manual, it said in Step 6, "Click Dell Factory Image Restore Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears: Depending on your configuration, you may need to select Dell Factory Tools, then Dell Factory Image Restore."Hello Kimnetc, In order to assist you further, I would like to know: -- What are the options you log in as an admin? -- Please share a screenshot if possible. -- Have you ever performed a manual re-installation of the operating system on this system? -- Are you able to boot the computer into windows? Please write back with the details, would be glad to assist you further. Thanks & Regards Allan D #iworkfordell To know more about Dell Product Support, Drivers & Downloads, Order & Dispatch status -> choose your region US ; India . For Dell support videos click Here . If a post answers your question, please click " Yes ".0I do not understand what you mean by a manual re-installation. Maybe my description under will answer that. Yes, my computer is capable of booting into windows. I couldn't take a screenshot so I just took a picture with my phone. After entering the administrator username and password, these are the options that appeared (see photo). At first I tried to do "System Image Recovery" (the third option), but a message popped up saying: "Windows cannot find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final DVD from a backup set and click Retry. Alternatively, close this dialog for more options." I couldn't do anything so I cancelled, went back to the System Recovery Options, and tried the last option, "Dell DataSafe Local Backup". Then, there were two options, one saying: "Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files (recommended)" and the other option saying: "Select other System Backup and more options". I chose the second one and two more options appeared. One read: "Backup files and folders" and the other said: "Restore my Computer". I chose the second option. This took me to a screen where I was supposed to choose from a list of Full System Backups . I only had one choice to choose from and it was called "Factory Image". I chose it and then followed the onscreen instructions. I was wondering if I did the right thing because as you know, I am trying to perform a format recovery and make my computer just like the way I purchased it. (Also, if nothing works, I'd like to buy a format recovery disk. How can I get this?)0If your object was to return your computer to the state in which it was delivered, you chose the correct options. When the computer is delivered to you, the Dell Factory Image is the only back-up file available. Dell keeps changing things so the recovery options often depend on when you received the computer. The Studio XPS435T/9000 my son received in 2010 has Data Safe Local Basic 2.0, which provides the same screen you have shown in your post, as well as the options you have described. He has used it a couple of times now to restore the computer to factory state after encountering malware. EDIT: With regard to a restore disk; Dell offers only the installation disk for the version of Windows that was ordered with your system, and disks for any Dell software that was included. If you ordered any Microsoft software other than the operating system, you will need to request installation disks from Microsoft as Dell will not provide it. If you live in the U.S., you can use this form to request a set of disks: Dell Replacement Disks . If you live outside the U.S. I'm afraid you will need to contact Dell Technical Support for the region in which you live and request the disks. You can use the U.S. form as a guide to the information that will be needed by the Dell Representative. Dell Forum member since 20050
