When to Change Fuel Filter? - E46Fanatics
Sep 06, 2012Spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filters were typically replaced every 30,000 miles on most BMWs (this is a tune-up) except M cars up to 1995, which got new spark plugs and a valve adjustment every 15,000. Later advances in computer engine management and spark plug technology legitimately allow 60,000-mile spark plug life if not more.
When to changing a fuel filter : e46 - reddit
Nov 08, 2017yeah, that is completely unnecessary. BMW does not have an interval to change the fuel filter (for petrol engines) in the E46 with M54 engines. If you look over to the BMW Z4 with M54 engines, the fuel filter is even placed over the exhaust system. Therefore you need to remove the whole exhaust system, if you want to change the fuel filter.
2001 E46 330d Fuel filter change intervals
Aug 28, 2011My car's done ~101k miles, due Inspection II service in ~6k IIRC (dash countdown). It had a fuel filter changed at its 1st Inspection II @54 by a BM dealer (I'm assuming it has anyway!, not double checked) which is the BMW recommended change interval. This seems rather long to me, I recall other diesels I used to work on (not much older) having them changed at 20k or 40k ish.

May 31, 2013BMW dealers don't generally want to open the transmission to get to the filter, as if there is ever a claim relating to the transmission, that dealer will get the "why did you open a properly-functioning lifefime gearbox" inquisition from BMW. But they'll generally do the fluid replacement. Don't forget the fuel filter, too.

IntroductionPrerequisitesProcedureConclusionThe fuel filter is an often overlooked maintenance item because it's installed on the underside of the vehicle behind a protective cover. Out of sight is out of mind. On the BMW E36, the fuel filter is nothing more than a large paper element filter housed in a cylindrical aluminum extrusion. That's a good thing because it is easily replaced by the DIY technician at a reasonable price. On the E46 and later vehicles the fuel pressure regulator is integrated with the filter and costs significant..See more on dvatp

Feb 12, 2015That's interesting because I've heard 30k, 60k and now 100k. In my Autodata, it doesn't say renew fuel filter in either inspection I or II. Does anyone know exactly what is the service interval on these. I have owned cars that have lifetime fuel filter's, but they're normally immersed in the tank.

I recommend replacing your fuel filter every 60,000 miles or if the fuel pump is replaced. I recommend original BMW filters or Bosch, Mann, or Mahle. The longevity of the fuel filter is largely based on the fuel that you put in your gas tank. This is why I highly recommend using a Top Tier fuel for your car to ensure proper performance
