Glass Filter Fuel Bowls Issues, Tips and Tricks - Buick
Apr 12, 2017All, I installed a glass fuel filter bowl(OEM) on my 1960 Electra. JohnD1956 made an interesting observation over the years concerning these filter set up.(and glad he did as this is a point to ponder as I had concerns with the securing mechanism for the glass bowl) Specifically causing fires if not assembled correctly when new filter installed or simply having the securing screw come loose

Should the clear fuel filter be filled with gas?? | LawnSite
Jul 11, 2002A clean filter will flow better, therefore a new filter will be empty becuase its clean and the gas is just pouring through it. A dirty filter will be forcing the suction of the engine to pull gas down, therefore the dirty filter will be full because there is friction holding the gas in.

I found this at an estate sale and was told it might be an old glass fuel filter. It is a glass tube with metal caps that screw on both ends. One cap has a crimped tip on it and the other cap is open on the end. Inside both caps are filters. It is about 8 inches long.
Fuel problem - should my engine empty the glass fuel
Oct 27, 2011Re: Fuel problem - should my engine empty the glass fuel filter while idling? That fuel bowl should stay full while it's running. You may have a fuel issue. What I would do, is charge it up and unplug the fuel line from the carb. Put the end into a jar and see if it pumps gas into it. If not, then it's a pretty safe bet that your fuel pump is shot.

Nov 29, 2008Re: Fuel Filter not Full? to answer your question,no. the bowl cannot stay full as its on the suction side of the fuel pumps. attach a fuel pressure guage to the VST output, attach a vacum guage t'd into the syatem at the lower lift pump intake. at wot fuel system vacum must remain less than 6"Hg and fuel pressure must remain at 35 PSI.

Feb 02, 2009Real, real fine talcum powder-like rust in the lines that was in the pump, and would plug up the cheap inline glass fuel filter I had between pump and carb. I will always run a glass bowl filter on a vintage car--it's a great diagnostic tool--you can see if your fuel problems are carb related, of something further downstream. -Brad
Inline fuel filter question - Pensacola Fishing Forum
Jul 29, 2011I thought the main tank might be the problem, so I replaced the inline fuel filter with a clear glass filter so that I could see the gas. I then hooked up a 12 gallon portable tank to bypass the main tank. The inline fuel filter will only stay about 1/4th full when the engine is running.
