Feb 12, 2009The original wire, which is the cloth wound resistor wire, shouldn't be used because it will cut the voltage and cannot handle the amperage. The stock GM HEI Distributors used about a 12 gauge wire which means it has to carry a whole lot more current than a point condensor style ignition.
