Automatic Vs Manual Network selection when roaming
Automatic Vs Manual Network selection when roaming. Products and Services FAQs. Products & Services FAQs. Vodafone at Home I recently got the HTC Desire, and last week when I was in London, it automatically connected to O2 when I got off the Tube. (i.e. in the "Available Networks" ), that locks the network you've selected as a manualIs there a way to avoid Automatic selection of the "wrong" network when roaming ?
I recently got the HTC Desire, and last week when I was in London, it automatically connected to O2 when I got off the Tube.
On all of my old Nokia phones, when I went abroad I could choose either Automatic or Manual for the network provider. I always chose Manual and then the Preferred Vodafone Partner.
In London I subsequently went into:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Operators
. was able to find and choose Vodafone UK.
I want to avoid a repeat of this, as I'm going abroad again and want to use Data Roaming and I understand I need to be on the Preferred Vodafone Partner in order for the data to come out of my 2Gb bundle through Vodafone Live.
On a related note, I'm trying to find the Partner Network for Czech Republic. I can no longer find the page that listed each country and it's Partner Network. All I can get is to drill in to each country via the map and it gives the rates, but no mention of Partner Network.
To my knowledge, when you select a network manually (i.e. in the "Available Networks" ), that locks the network you've selected as a manual selection. Unfortunately, this is something that can't really be verified in Ireland as we can only select Vodafone Ireland here!
On the second point, again, to my knowledge, it doesn't matter what network you're on. Here's a quote from Vodafone: "If you are roaming and have the Live APN - your usage comes out of your bundle. It actually doesn't matter which network you are on (you don't have to be on a Vodafone network)"0Thanks. Just that when my wife recently went to the USA with her new iPhone, the Admins made a particular point that she needed to connect to the Partner Network (ATT/Cellular in USA) to ensure use of the 2Gb bundle and avoid paying for roaming data.0Thanks. Just that when my wife recently went to the USA with her new iPhone, the Admins made a particular point that she needed to connect to the Partner Network (ATT/Cellular in USA) to ensure use of the 2Gb bundle and avoid paying for roaming data.
I asked about the US recently as I wanted to actually use data this time (I go back and over quite a bit, but usually bring a basic phone to avoid data cost), and when I asked about data, If I'm in New York, who do I roam on to NOT incur additional Data Charges? I'm using LIVE APN with PC Access+ plan.
this is, to quote, exactly what I got back: Hi Tony, any network that you can use a data connection on will be covered for use over Live by your 2GB bundle
This is not the first time I was told this. I've been told in the past the it doesn't need to be a specific network, that if the network doesn't support Vodafone, then you won't have access to the features of your phone (calls, texts, data)0Thanks, curious that that conflicts with what I had been told by Customer Care over the phone, although I've found them to be lacking in correct info quite a lot. Seems that it's only the Mods on this Forum who have the right info.
My question on chosen partner in Czech Rep seemes to be answered with this nugget:
Do I need to select a network?
Our roaming rates apply to all networks within a country, unless otherwise stated, so there is no need to manually select a network.
That's quite a seismic shift in recent months it seems.0Hi BlueKoyote
Tony is correct there. It doesn't matter which network you are roaming on, you'll still receive the live roaming rates.
