The D90 can AF both of these type of lenses, where the D40,D60, D3000 and D5000 can only AF the electrical lenses. Manual is as it sounds but only use AIS lens on the D90

Sep 22, 2009I like using manual focus but I have a problem using it which I attribute to my eyesight. I get blurred images when using manual focus unless I use the electronic focus indicator (electronic rangefinder) in the Nikon D90 ( also in the D40, D300, D700, D3).

Nov 28, 2015The D80 and D90 have no aperture follower tab, so you'll have no metering with old manual focus lenses, unless they are chipped with a CPU such as P lenses. There will also be the crop factor. If you must use the D80 or D90, the easiest solution is to get a DX zoom or two.

I am concerned about the auto focus on my D90. I tested out focusing using two differernt pro Nikon lenses a 60mm f2.8 micro lens and the f 2.8 80-200. At 2.8, the focus using auto focus was slightly soft and by f 5.6 became quite sharp.

Mar 12, 2010I shoot White Lenses ( eg: Canon ) so... But I believe if you can get fast, snappy autofocus with a lens on a D40, and the same lens on a D90 is not getting at least as fast a performance in AF, then something is awry in Denmark, unless there was a major change in subject and lighting.
