My Spirit Powerstation 600 by soundcraft has the Red Mute
Dec 01, 2012My Spirit Powerstation 600 by soundcraft has the Red Mute light on "lit" constantly and the speakers are delivering normal sound. The output relays click after a few seconds and sound is normal but the Red Mute light stay on. What may be the problem5/5Thank you for the information. I am familiar with this one. The trouble however is an internal component failure. More than likely with that on it will be a simple electrolytic capacitor that has failed. That part is only a few dollars but parts inside will need to be tested to determine which one is the culprit. It will need to be serviced because this can cause worse issues over time. If you have any electronics experience, soldering and testing I could help you do this. But if not it would be best left to a professional unfortunately. If you need further advice on this or if you let me know where abouts you are, I could maybe find a shop local to you that will fix this for you. Please let me know. Since this will take some time, if you will rate my service to you as OK or better, it will ensure our question and answer session will NOT close or time out. Also the system then will allow me to schedule free follow ups with you to help with the repair at no cost to you:-) Thank you Tech MichaelThanks Kevin for that information. Now I see why we are having this trouble. I wouldnt remove yet any caps. You, if you are VERY careful, with the unit on, tap the caps to see if it affects the light. There may be another issue as well but we will cross that bridge when we get there. On these units, the caps sometimes fail and cause this problem. I will work with you until we have this solved, no worries. But Since this will take some time, if you will rate my service to you as OK or better, it will ensure our question and answer session will NOT close or time out. Sheila, now at this point you would need some more test equipment and knowledge of electronics unfortunately. Usually the caps are the cause of this, but there is apparently a short in the unit in another area which requires extensive testing to fix. You could look locally for an electronics repair shop in your area. This problem may be as simple as a faulty switch or button switch as they fail all the time. I wish I had better news for you on this I really do, but there really isn't much else you can do on your own with this. If you need me further I will be here for you even after you rate me at no additional cost to you:-) Thank you and have a great Holiday! MichaelHello, my name is Rusty. I'm a sound engineer. That mute light is supposed to come on due to overheating, but it's also supposed to shut off the amplifier. I don't think it's anything to worry about if it's not causing malfunction to the output wattage. It is connected to the output relay. There's a chance that the circuit to the LED has been broken between the relay and the LED, causing it to light. That's the most likely culprit. Let me know if you have any other malfunctions, and I'll help you get through them. There is a switch that activates the fault, would shut off the fan, and turn on the light. I believe that switch is faulty. If the amp isn't shutting off, then I don't believe that the amp is overheating, I think that switch is going haywire. Since you're in the U.K., a service manual with schematic will be easier for you to obtain than it will for be for me. The switch is very apparent. It will have a lead to your fan, your amp circuit, and the mute LED. Let me know what you find out.Hi, So to be sure, the unit seems to work fine but the red light is on. Can you un mute the unit or does the light stay lit? Also when you try to push mute will it go into mute. Thank you Tech MichaelHi I as a Tech have not been paid so your money is still on account as far as I know. I only get credit when you accept but even then it locks us in at no additional cost to you. I will work with you until you are satisfied, I always do:-) But, do you want to open the unit to look for the problem? If so I will help you. You will need a multimeter and you can get a cheap one from Radio Shack or any hardware store. Please let me know. Thank you Tech MichaelSorry for the delay, Please look at all the round metal can capacitors, check them for bulging tops and possibly leaking any type of fluid. Let me know. Thank you MichaelHi thank you for your patience, I had a death in my family and have been away. But I will certainly work on this with you when you are available. Have a great night:-) Tech MichaelHi, according to your file here it says your name is Sheila Nixon, sorry if theres been a mix up. Also, I have been an electronic tech for over 30 years. I am truly sorry but the answers and the help I offered is all you could do unless you had more extensive test equipment. Your problem is a bit more complicated than a bad capacitor. I did my very best to try and fix this for you. I will be here if there are any furthr questions on this. Please understand and have a great holiday. Tech Michael

Last time I fixed a Power Station 600 output amp fault it was the preset pot in the bias chain which was open circuit, but it wasn't easy to find. Getting to the power amps is quite an achievement, even before you try to find the fault. If you contact Soundcraft you can get the Power Station technical manual in
