Competitions - North Carolina Writers' Network
The Jacobs/Jones African-American Literary Prize honors Harriet Jacobs and Thomas Jones, two pioneering African-American writers from North Carolina, and seeks to convey the rich and varied existence of Black North Carolinians. The contest is administered by the Creative Writing Program at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Contests are open to all CWC members and to non-member residents of North and South Carolina. Entries must be original and unpublished. This includes blogs, Facebook, websites and other digital media. Entries that have placed in any CWC contest are no longer eligible for future submissions.
Poetry Contest - Department of English - NC State
The annual NC State Poetry Contest is a free literary competition open to all North Carolina residents (including out-of-state and international students who are enrolled in North Carolina universities). It remains one of the largest free-to-enter poetry contests in the South.
Story Contest - Department of English - NC State
The NC State Fiction Contest is accepting entries for its 2019 competition. Drawing more than 300 entrants last year, this free literary contest is open to North Carolina residents and is one of the largest free-to-enter writing contests in the South.
