OLD FUSE BOXES LEGAL
Are old wire type fuses now illegal? - MyBuilder
Oct 17, 2011The current edition of BS7671 (2008 as ammended to 2011), still allows for old BS3036 re-wireable type fuses. So they are not illegal. This said they are a pretty crude circuit protective device when compared to the protection and speed of operation of Minature Circuit Breakers and Residual Current Devices, both of which are really the normal expected standard these days.Illegal to install. Not illegal on existing instalations. Would recomend upgrade to a 17th edition compliant board if you can afford it..Best answer · 10In short No! Old fuse boxes: are they illegal? - General Discussions
Nov 28, 2008it sounds like you've got an old 'wylex' fuse board, there is nothing wrong with these boards even though they do not meet the 17th edition regs, and will not afford anywhere near the protection of a modern board. the problem may be the wiring, fittings and general design of the system, it may just be time for a rewire, wire has a finite life span as so do the switches and sockets.
