Nov 09, 2009Re: Fuel Gauge problems Very good wiring diagram. Fuel gauges are not all that accurate any way, do give you and idea of fuel in the tank, but as the attitude of the boat changes, so goes the gauge. You should establish fuel consumption in gallons per hour and then you have a "mental" idea of how much you have left.
adapting a gas tank sending unit (potentiometer) | Forum
Jul 21, 2016@BR-549, to the extent that the impedance of the gauge is approximately fixed, the voltage on the sending unit will vary with current. I have a wiring diagram, but it's not really a schematic. The circuit is really simple, though: A grounded potentiometer, center tap wire from tank to dash gauge, gauge to 12 volts.
Voltage Divider on a fuel gauge in a car | Forum
Oct 12, 2016I have a fuel gauge that is mismatched to the sending unit on a hotrod. It is ready about twice the fuel it should, so I put together a voltage divider using a dual cement 5 watt resistor. The center or common leg goes to the fuel gauge +terminal, one of the legs goes to the 12v lead, and one of the legs goes to ground.
How Do You Wire a Fuel Gauge? | Reference
Wire a fuel gauge by first disconnecting the old dysfunctional unit to replace it with a new one. Obtain 12-volt power from the fuse box using a standard wire, and connect it to the positive terminal of the fuel gauge. Next, connect a wire from the float on the fuel tank to the negative terminal of the fuel gauge.
