Rings of Saturn
The rings of Saturn are the most extensive ring system of any planet in the Solar System. They consist of countless small particles, ranging in size from micrometers to meters, that orbit about Saturn. The ring particles are made almost entirely of water ice, with a trace component of rocky material. There is still no consensus as to their mechanism of formation. Although theoretical models indicated that the rings were likely to have formed early in the Solar System's history, new data from Cassini suggest they formed relatively late.

Saturn's Rings: Composition, Characteristics & Creation
Saturn's rings are made up of billions of particles ranging from grains of sand to mountain-size chunks. Composed predominantly of water-ice, the rings also draw in rocky meteoroids as they travel..

They're made of billions of dust-covered chunks of ice and rock that range in size from a grain of sugar to a house, with a few being as big as a mountain. The wide, flat rings extend out over 75,000 miles from the planet. They're divided into seven distinct rings that were named alphabetically as they were discovered.Explore in the solar systemAtmosphereSurfaceCrustCoreRingsRadius: 36,183 milesType: gas giantEffective temperature: -288.4°FGravity: 34 feet/s²

Jun 26, 2020The rings are about 400,000 kilometers (240,000 miles) wide. That's the distance from the Earth to the Moon! But the rings are as little as 100 meters (330 feet) thick. They range from particles too tiny to see to "particles" the size of a bus.

Aug 29, 2005Saturn's rings make up an enormous, complex structure. From edge-to-edge, the ring system would not even fit in the distance between Earth and the Moon. The seven main rings are labeled in the order in which they were discovered. From the planet outward, they are D, C, B, A, F, G and E.Other articles from solarsystemNASA's Cassini Data Show Saturn's Rings RelNASA Research Reveals Saturn is Losing Its Saturn's Rings: Less than Meets the Eye? – NSaturn 3D Model

What are Saturn's rings made of? | HowStuffWorks
Saturn has seven main rings, each composed of thousands of tiny ringlets. The rings are huge -- the biggest ones spanning 170,000 miles (273,588 km) in diameter. They are, however, proportionately very thin -- only about 650 feet (200 meters) thick.
