Bombardier’s new ski suspension used short trailing links with tall coil-over-shock springing at the back end of the links, and a front-mounted sway bar for roll control.

1979 Blizzard. New for the 79 season was the 5500 and 9500. They were in an all new chassis. The tunnel was aluminum and the bulkhead/bellypan was made of High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) steel. The 5500 and 9500 was also the first consumer production sled in which Ski-Doo used a jackshaft mounted secondary pulley.

Moto-Ski’s Ultra Sonic prototype was faster than its Ski-Doo cousin when the two sleds were initially set-up. That meant that the factory wrenches on hand were re-directed to the Blizzard, which was brought up to specs before the dawn acceleration runs. Minimal time was left for the second sled, the Moto-Ski.
