UNDERSTANDING THE LENSOMETER
The Basics of Lensometry - OptometryStudents
Jan 02, 2010What is lensometry? A lensometer measures vergence and prism power amongst other aspects of a lens. If a patient presents a pair of spectacles to you and does not know the Rx of the lenses, a lensometer will enable you to determine the sphere, cylinder, axis,
How to Read a Lensometer | Career Trend
A lensometer is an optometric device used to determine, or read, the prescription in an optical lens. The lensometer reads spherical power, cylindrical power, axis, and pupillary distance, and can also determine prism in a lens.
Using a lensometer to check glasses (Video) - TimRoot
This video shows the use of a lensometer, a device used to check the prescription in glasses. This device can be tricky for the novice technician to use, as you must align the glasses well and move two dials at the same time to hone in on the prescription. Here are
Ophthalmic Lenses: How to use a manual Lensometer!
Aug 04, 2011I n the late 1800s the introduction of the lensmeter, also called a lensometer, focimeter, or vertometer changed the way the power(s) of lenses were neutralized. Eyecare Business - Understanding Prism Part 2: Verifying
Dec 01, 2012Be sure to study your lensmeter’s manual to fully understand the prism value of the innermost ring of the reticle. FOCUS THE EYEPIECE. The lensmeter’s eyepiece is made up of a series of lenses. Focus the eyepiece before attempting to neutralize lenses by turning the power drum to plano or 0 power, then turn the eyepiece to its most plus position.

Prism Made Easy. Locating and verifying prism, in a manual lensmeter, becomes more difficult when the target is formed by a cylinder prescription and even harder to visualize when there is an oblique cylinder axis. At axes near 90 and 180, the vertical and horizontal lines help to align the location of the prism.Author: Staff
