How to Repair a Whirlpool Dryer That Won't Start
Nothing can ruin a good day like a malfunctioning appliance, especially when it’s your electric dryer and it won’t turn on. Unfortunately, there are several possible component failures that can cause a non-starting Whirlpool dryer model WED4616FW. However, first and foremost, you need to rule out a power supply issue by checking the circuit breaker.
What is wrong with my Whirlpool Duet dryer when it won't
What is wrong with my Whirlpool Duet dryer when it won't start and all it does when I push the start button is click and the sensing light comes on? If the lights are on but the dryer will not start there are several possible causes and this may be a difficult problem to troubleshoot if If the lights are on but the dryer will not start there are several possible causes and this may be a difficult problem to troubleshoot if you don't have access to a volt/ohm meter.
First make sure the door is shut. If you can select all cycles and the problem is the dryer just doesn't run then the door switch is a likely cause of this problem. You can open and shut the door and check if the drum light is working. If the drum light is not working on a newer dryer then it is likely caused by the door switch.
Without a meter is is difficult to determine why the dryer will not start. An open thermal fuse or broken belt will cause the dryer not to start. It is not likely the belt broke but the thermal fuse is certainly a possibility and I am including in the images below how to access and check the thermal fuse on most Whirlpool Duet dryers.
The image below should help with this problem. Remove the lower access panel and check the thermal fuse first. Remember to unplug the dryer first.
The fuse is best checked with a volt/ohm meter but there is another way to check if the fuse is the problem. the thermal fuse has two light blue wires and with the dryer unplugged you can remove the two blue wires and join (jump) them together with a small piece of wire. With the fuse bypassed and the wires not touching anything (a little electrical tape) plug the dryer in and see if it will run. If it runs then you have found the problem.
Replace the fuse right away and don't try to catch up on on laundry with the fuse bypassed. The 3392519 thermal fuse, or any part, can be obtained from the following site:
If the fuse and door switch are okay then it may be the control is the problem but to check this you will need a volt/ohm meter and be comfortable and confident using it.

Ran a load in the washer and dryer fine. Second load was fine in washer. Am loving it. However, the dryer.. on the second load i heard a loud pop sound and the bulb went out and so did the circuit breaker. 1. Circuit breaker reset. 2. Dryer powers back on, but the door switch is out. That is now fixed. 3. Now it powers up, press the start/pause, it starts. The 'sense' light comes on, the machine tumbles for a second, then it the light switches to 'wet' light, but dryer stops and sits there for 20 mins. 4. It repeats the 1 second tumble and goes to wet and just sits. Thats where it has been repeating itself for the last 3 hours every 20 mins. 5. Did some reading online. Took the thermal fuse to a parts store and the guy tested with an ohm reader and said it was ok. I brought it back to the house. still the same issue. 6. Left it unplugged for an hour and still same issue. Help please! Could it still be a bad thermal fuse? I mean it tumbles so the motor and belt is ok, right? Really don't want to wait till Wednesday when the service guy will get out there.what do I do when dryer sensor light blinks and dryer wont startif the dryer heat element is not working does that mean the motor is deadwhy wont my dryer dry the close?
